BETHLEHEM, HEBRON AND ZION
Acts 13:22 AMP
And when He had deposed him, He raised up David to be their king; of him He bore witness and said, I have found David son of Jesse a man after My own heart, who will do all My will and carry out My program fully.
David typifies the Christian in this third day that grows into the perfection and fulness of Christ.
This is in contrast to Saul who is anointed by the Holy Spirit but did not practice ALL of the will of God, doing only what was convenient for the flesh typified by Amalek (1Sam. 15.1-31): or Jonathan, anointed by the Holy Spirit but was double-minded (Jam. 1:5-8), mentally acknowledging ALL (1 Sam. 23:16-18) of the will of God, but did not practice it because of misplaced human loyalty and fear of loss of material and financial comfort.
David accepts and practices all of the will of God and so grows to experience three anointings—the earnest, the borrowed anointing of the Spirit without measure and finally, the full inherited anointing of the Spirit without measure, like the Lord Jesus.
There are three levels of anointing we are destined to experience if we develop David’s type of heart.
1. Bethlehem anointing– The earnest anointing of the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues (Act. 2:1-4; 19:1-6).
2. Hebron anointing via Ziklag—A borrowed anointing of the Spirit without measure, like the one the Lord Jesus gave to the 12 Apostles and 70 disciples (Lk. 9:1-6; 10:1-17).
The borrowed anointing is obtained via Ziklag. To get it, you have to follow a leader like Elisha followed Elijah, who has inherited the Spirit without measure for a time, typified by David’s stay at Ziklag (1Sam. 27:6-7).
The Apostles had been following the Lord Jesus for about a year before He gave them this borrowed anointing (Jn. 2:11-13; 6:1-13).
However, David’s anointing at Hebron made him King over only one tribe, which symbolizes the limited borrowed anointing, and not the full anointing of the Spirit without measure.
3. The Jerusalem or Zion anointing symbolizes the anointing of the Spirit without measure that the Lord Jesus inherited when John the Baptist baptized Him in water (Jn. 1:29-34; 3.34).
It is our destiny as the David type of New Testament Christians, to inherit this Spirit without measure (Jn. 14:12). So we are to develop from Bethlehem to Hebron and then ultimately to Zion!
The good news is that any Christian, as an act of his will, can develop David’s type of heart. No one is born with a David type of heart. It is developed by the Word and the Spirit like David did (Acts 13:22).
