COMMUNICATING WITH GOD
Job 33:14-17 NKJV
For God may speak in one way, or in another, Yet man does not perceive it…Then He opens the ears of men, And seals their instruction in order to turn man from his deed, And conceal pride from man.
Communicating with God is vital for a victorious and fulfilled life because God is the source of all life, wisdom and power. Additionally, God made us in His image and likeness, so that we would give Him pleasure by our freewill fellowship with Him on a level of equality (Gen. 1:27; Rev. 4:11).
How then do we communicate with God?
We communicate with God, Who is a spirit, through words and thoughts, which have spiritual substance (Jn. 6:63; Eph. 3:20).
God communicates back to us through thoughts confirmed by His written Word, and corresponding supernatural physical circumstances (Jn. 5:36-39).
To communicate consciously, intelligently, effectively and regularly with God you need to:
1 ). Maintain a humble heart and pure motives (Matt. 5:8; Prov. 11:2).
2 ). Read, study, confess, meditate (think upon with a determination to practice) God’s Word daily, especially on the love of God (1Cor. 13:4-8).
3 ). Pray frequently in tongues each day, watching or thinking on God as you pray (Luk. 21:36; 1Cor. 14:5-18).
4). If you want to talk to God about some specific issue, start thinking (Prov. 4:26) about it in line with principles and examples of Scripture about the issue, especially while you are praying in tongues.
As you practice these things daily, God will:
1 . Put thoughts (a witness) into your mind concerning whatever He wants you to know. (Rom. 8:16; Col. 3:15).
2 . Confirm this witness through His written Word (interpreted in the light of the character of God – Jas. 3:17; Jer. 9:24), and through confirmation from independent prophetic sources in line with the Word and character of God (1Th. 5:20-21).
3 . Corresponding supernatural, physical circumstances.
Effective communication with God requires trusting God and patience, which come by staying in prayer and the Word, as well as practice (Isa. 28:16).
