PLEASING GOD
Hebrews 6: 11(NKJV)
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Here we are told that without faith it is impossible to please God.
Why? This is so because God is a spirit Who is invisible to us. It takes faith, trust in unseen realities, to relate to God.
Faith in God is trusting in the integrity of His written Word that declares realities that are not tangible or visible to our physical senses (Num. 23:19).
We accept as true and real what we do not see, simply because God says they are true in His written Word. In fact, we accept the Bible as the written Word of God by faith, simply because it declares itself to be God’s Word (2Pet. 1:19-21).
And so we find that as we act on what God has declared to be a reality in His Word, we experience a physical manifestation of what God has said, like Abraham and Sarah did (Rom. 4:18-21).
This proves to us that our faith is not misplaced and that God’s Word is actually true (Jer. 1:12).
How then do we please God by faith?
We need to understand that because of the sin nature in man’s soul (mind, will and emotions) and physical body, man cannot please God simply by desiring to (Rom. 7:14-25).
We please God by faith, by keeping the law of life and love (Jn. 20:31), which is also the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus that sets us free from the law of sin and death (Rom. 8:2).
So as we use our faith to keep the law, then the necessary wisdom, compassion and power of godliness will be released to enable us please God in every situation.
To keep the law therefore, we must apply our faith to the correct use of the Blood of Jesus (1Jn. 1:7-10), the Word of God (1Jn. 5:6) and the power of the Holy Spirit (1Cor. 14:5) to release the spiritual forces that enable us to please God.
The Blood, applied by the confession of sin, cleanses the block of sin created when we commit acts of sin which hinders our fellowship with God. It restores our continued access to God’s life, His wisdom and compassion. This is why we must confess our sins often and regularly.
The Word of God, for a man who is in fellowship with God, provides access to an abundance of the life of God (Jn. 10:10). Therefore, by faith in scriptures that promise us life, we can always have an abundance of life in our heart from which we speak (Lk. 6:45), increasing the potency of our words in prayer.
The power of the Holy Spirit is released when we pray in tongues and travail from a heart full of an abundance of the life of God.
When these three things are done consistently, diligently and daily, power, wisdom and compassion are released, to enable us to walk in the Spirit and so please God in every situation and temptation.
Galatians 5:16-17 NIV
So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.
