FORGIVENESS

Mark 11:25-26 NKJV
“And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.”

Forgiveness is releasing people who have wronged you, giving them access to the mercy of God. The mercy of God causes God’s power (life) to be ministered to the soul, body or circumstances of the person being forgiven, which helps them overcome the defect in their character that caused them to offend or hurt you.

Forgiveness acts as a lubricant without which no relationship can progress and increase in fellowship. God forgives us so our fellowship can grow, cause our faith to work and give us victory.

A great man of God, Derek Prince, once said “forgiveness is ‘enlightened self-interest’”. Forgiving others, blesses you and the person you forgive. It gives both you and them another chance to overcome your character defects.

We have to walk in forgiveness daily as a life-style. God will not forgive us our sins if we don’t forgive others. Therefore we will have no defence against Satanic attacks and torment if we don’t forgive (Matt. 18:21-35).

We forgive our brethren from the heart as the Lord Jesus commanded us by:

1. Saying with your mouth, as an act of your will irrespective of your emotions: ‘I forgive so-and- so of such-and-such, in Jesus Name!’

2. Asking God to give life and help them to repent of the character defect that caused the offence (1Jn. 5: 16).

3. Relating to them in wisdom without bitterness, or any desire to hurt them in revenge for what they have done to you.

Romans 12:17-21 NKJV: Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
