HIS YOKE IS EASY

Matthew 11:28-30 KJV
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

The Lord is saying to Christians who are finding their service and labour in the Lord difficult and heavy, that this should not be so since His yoke is easy, and His burden is light.

Why is it then that sometimes we find His yoke difficult and heavy?

1). Many times we are not carrying His yoke, but rather a yoke we have assumed is His.
2). We have added to His yoke things He did not ask us to do.
3). We are not doing things in His way and by His wisdom.

What then is His yoke?

His yoke basically is the fear of God and keeping his commandments (Eccl. 12:13).

– The fear of God is an attitude of reverence based on the knowledge of the certainty of His chastening if we disobey, and the security of His mercy when we obey. It also includes being meek and lowly in heart (1Pt. 5:5).

– The commandments of God are:
i). Believing on the Name of Jesus, which implies regularly receiving His life through promises in His Word, by the authority of His Name (Jn. 20:31).

ii). Loving one another as He gave commandment. Loving as He loved, by His divine life, which gives His wisdom, compassion and power. (1Jn. 3:23).

To fear God is a choice of our wills we must make and reaffirm daily (Pro. 1:29). To believe on the Name of Jesus and love one another as He loved us requires that we, as a daily habit, pray and walk in the Spirit, operating the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus.

Therefore, when our physical service in our families, church and secular work is not done with the foundation of prayer and the Word, with an attitude of the fear of God and walking in the Spirit, then His yoke will be difficult and heavy.

So, the greater the measure of the life of God (Jn. 10:10) we have flowing in and through us, the more effectively we pray in the Spirit (Eph. 6:18), the easier we will find His yoke and the lighter His burden.
