KEEPING SATAN OUT

OLUBI JOHNSON

Mark 8:32-33 KJV
And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him. But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.

In our opening scripture, we see Satan working through Peter’s emotions, to try to get the Lord Jesus not to fulfill His destiny of going to the cross to die for humanity.

Many times we give place to Satan in this way through our thoughts, words and actions, when our eye, mind or conscience, is not single or sound in a particular area or issue (Lk.11:34-35; Eph.1:17-18).

Peter sincerely cared for the Lord Jesus, but he was sincerely wrong! His mind was not enlightened by the Holy Spirit (Eph. 1:17-18) through the Word (Psa.119:130), concerning God’s purpose for Jesus in going to the cross.

Satan was able to use that darkness as a landing site to think, act and speak through Peter, releasing spiritual power to try to stop the Lord from fulfilling His divine purpose and assignment on the earth (Pro.18:21). The Lord Jesus had to neutralize the spiritual power or death released through Peter’s mouth by immediately rebuking him (Matt. 16:23).

Anytime you put human emotions and ambitions above divine purpose and revelation, you open the door to Satan to ( will, speak and act through you) to try to abort the plan and purpose of God. We do this many times ignorantly and sincerely like Peter.

Satan can also speak through us because of our stubbornness, pride and rebellion, which hinder us from getting the light of the spirit of wisdom (Pro. 11.2) and revelation (Eph.4:17-18). In this case, we allow the devil to use us like he uses those who make incantations in witchcraft and idolatry (1Sam.15:22-24).

This becomes even more serious when we pray in tongues in rebellion or disobedience, without the love of God, because the spiritual law of exponential increase in prayer power works against us for Satan (1Cor.13:1), instead of for us against Satan (Deut. 32:30).

God stops protecting us and lets the enemy win, when we are not walking in His commandment of love! (1Jn. 3:22-23). When we are not walking in love, we are walking in darkness, and so the light in us is darkness, giving place to Satan (1Jn. 2:8-11).

We diligently keep Satan out by:

1 Keeping our hearts with all diligence (Prov. 4:23-27). Our hearts here refers to our souls: the mind, will and emotions.

We keep our hearts with all diligence by vigilantly keeping our thoughts, words and what we eat in line with the Word of God (Pr. 4:23).

All kinds of thoughts come to everybody; however, it is only those thoughts you accept as an act of your will, and so begin to meditate on, and so desire, that develop into imaginations and subsequently into actions that create strongholds (2Cor. 10:4-5).

So when a thought contrary to the Word of God comes to your mind, cast it down: do not accept it with your will or desires.

2 Praying without ceasing (1Thess. 5:17). We pray without ceasing by ‘washing our feet’. That means confessing our sins (to clean with the blood), asking God for life and praying in tongues, at least once every six hours (Jos. 1:8).
