OBTAINING A GOOD REPORT

Hebrews 11:1-2 NIV
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. For by it the elders obtained a good report.

The report in this context is God’s report about our lives: about His impression of us. The report can be good (like Enoch, Noah, Abraham) or bad (Cain, Balaam, Jezebel and others).

The Elders received a good report because they honored God by having faith in His integrity, when they could not see anything in the physical.

Some of them even died in faith, not receiving the promise in their lifetime.

Hebrews 11:13 KJV
“These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

This is in contrast to many Christians today who easily get discouraged or offended, when the promises about some physical or material blessing God has promised has not manifested.

To obtain a good report, we must continue to trust in God’s integrity, even when it seems as if what God has promised has not yet manifested.

We must be prepared to do this even unto death (Job 13:15, Dan. 3:16-18).

Our faith in God’s Word should be based on three things:
1 . The reality of His existence as evidenced by the intelligent creation we observe (Rom. 1:20).
2 . His ability to supernaturally change our sinful spiritual nature to the righteous spiritual nature through Christ Jesus (2Cor. 5:17, 21).
3 . His ability to fill us with the power of His Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues and receiving revelation knowledge (1Cor. 2:7,10).

When these form the basis of our faith and we trust in God whether or not physical, material or financial blessings are manifest, we, like the elders mentioned above, will also obtain a good report.

If they obey and serve Him, They shall spend their days in prosperity, And their years in pleasures.
