OVERCOMING DISHONESTY, UNBELIEF, DISOBEDIENCE AND REBELLION
OLUBI JOHNSON
Romans 1:18 (KJV)
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
Dishonesty is not accepting truth in your heart, and it causes a withdrawal of God’s light from the heart, leading to an obscurity of the invisible, spiritual realities of God’s existence and power: which is unbelief (Rom. 1:18-20).
This attitude of dishonesty and unbelief disconnects man from God’s life and light, causing darkness, so man does not have the ability: wisdom and strength to obey God which leads to disobedience (Rom. 1:21-32).
It is this attitude of heart that has led to the terrible condition of the natural human heart (Jer. 17:9 ).
The good news is that God knows man’s heart condition and can change this terrible condition of man’s heart (Ezk 36:26-27)!
This terrible, deceitful condition of the human soul (will, mind and emotions) is also in Christians. This is because even though our spirits are born-again, our souls (will, minds and emotions) still have the sin-nature, and we need to use the blood (Heb. 13:20-21), the Word (1Jn. 2:5) and the Spirit (1Jn. 4:12-13) to renew our minds (Eph. 4:21-23).
Sadly, a Christian can deteriorate from being honest and humble in heart, to becoming rebellious and stubborn like Saul, if they do not continue to exercise themselves in honesty and humility of heart (1Sam. 15:17,22-23).
Saul deteriorated from being honest and humble in his heart, to becoming disobedient, rebellious and stubborn.
The good news is that this condition can be reversed and afterwards avoided. This is done by the constant exercise of honesty of heart in confession of sins for the regular cleansing of the blood of Jesus, receiving the life of God, speaking and meditating in God’s Word and praying in the Spirit (Act. 24:16).
So, by the blood, the Word and the power of the Holy Spirit, we can overcome dishonesty, unbelief and rebellion.
