JUNE 4
THE DAY OF THE LORD
OLUBI JOHNSON
Amos 5:18 (KJV)
Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! To what end is it for you?
One day does not mean a period of twenty-four hours from God’s perspective (2Pt. 3:8).
The Day of the Lord will actually span a period of about one-thousand years (Ps. 90:4), and it will be a day of many events which will be both glorious for some, and terrible for others (Mal. 4:5; Hos. 6:2).
Since, from God’s perspective, one day is equivalent to a thousand years, the Day of the Lord must start after the Church is two-thousand years old, at the beginning of the third, one-thousand-year period from Christ. The third Day from Christ also happens to be the seventh Day from Adam (from Adam to Abraham is about 2000 years; see genealogies Genesis 5; 11:10-32, and Abraham lived about 2000 years before Christ, spanning forty-two generations; Matt. 1:17).
Prophetically speaking, the Seventh Day is the Lord’s day, a day in which the Church is going to enter experientially into the rest of God (Heb. 4:4, 8-11).
Thus the day of the Lord is the third millennium from Christ, or the seventh from Adam.
It is the day in which the Church will be perfected, and that perfect Church will preach and demonstrate the gospel of the Kingdom to all nations or tribes for a witness before the Lord Jesus catches away, or raptures the Church and returns physically for the millennial reign after the great tribulation.
We can now place the beginning of the Day of the Lord to be any time from around 1996 AD to around 2,000 AD (Historians tell us that the Lord Jesus was actual born in the year 4 BC).
So we are NOW in the day of Lord!
Events of the Day of Lord
There are 7 major events that will take place in the Day of the Lord, culminating in the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ for the millennial reign.
1) Perfection and tribulation of the Church (Mal. 3:1; Col. 1:27-28).
In this move Christ is not coming for us (as he will at the rapture), but He is coming in us (in perfection).
Tribulation of the Church:
As this perfection is happening, however, God is going to bring severe judgement and tribulation upon the rest of the Church, who are not among these people, to teach the rest of the Church righteousness unto perfection (1Pt. 4:17)
2) World evangelism and discipleship (Matt. 24:14)
3) Rapture of the perfect Church (1Thess. 4:15-17 )
4) Great Tribulation of the World (Rev. 6-19, Matt. 24:15-31).
5) The Millennial Reign of Christ (Rev. 20:6, Lk. 19:17,19).
6) The Great White Throne judgement (Jn. 5:22; Rev. 20:11-12).
7) The Eternal Kingdom of God
The final event of this story will be the creation of a new heaven and a new earth, and the setting up of God’s eternal kingdom (2 Pt. 3:12-13; 1Cor. 15:24; Rev. 21:1-3).
After this there will be no more sin, or rebellion forever.
