THE KEY OF DAVID
Isaiah 22:20-22(NKJV)
And in that day it shall be, even I will call to My servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah. And I will clothe him with your robe and will fasten your sash on him. And I will give your authority into his hand. And he shall be a father to the ones living in Jerusalem and to the house of Judah . And the key of the house of David I will lay on his shoulder, so that he opens, and no one shuts; and he shuts, and no one opens…
To receive the key of David, we must develop the same degree of honesty and humility of heart as David did (Luk. 11:52), and even greater.
The key of David is the revelation of God that
David had, that enabled him to enforce the Kingdom and thus the will of God in his life and kingdom.
There were 3 levels at which David had a revelation of God:
1. He had a revelation of God as Saviour: God saved him from the lion and the bear (1 Samuel 17:34-37).
2. He had a revelation of God as Lord and Master of his personal life so he consulted and obeyed God concerning where and when he should go (1 Samuel 23:10-13).
3. He had a revelation of God as King over the whole earth: when God gave him victory and dominion over heathen nations (Psa. 18:43-44; 108:7-9).
We too must have revelation of God at these three levels for us to have the key of David.
David was willing to do all of the will of God as it was revealed to him.
The two key words here are: ‘will’ and ‘all’.
This is particularly exemplified in David’s faithfulness to Saul in not killing him, especially when his own life remained in danger by not doing so (1Sam. 24:3-12; 26: 7-20).
Acts 13:22(NKJV)
And removing him, He raised up to them David for a king, to whom He also said, witnessing, “I found David” the son of Jesse “to be a man according to My own heart, who will do all My will.”
We see this same principle of willingness to do all of the will of God, even unto death in the commitment and obedience of Ruth to Naomi (Ruth 1:16), Esther to Mordecai (Est. 4:16), and in Daniel (Dan. 6:10-28), Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego (Dan. 3:14-30).
We also need to develop our hearts to this degree, where we will obey God even at the risk of our own lives (Rev. 12:11).
It is instructive to note that David himself had to develop this type of heart: no one is born with this type of heart, as we were all born in sin and shapen in iniquity (Ps. 51:5).
How then did David develop this type of heart?
By using God’s Word (Ps. 19:7-14).
As we do and maintain this by the Blood, the Word and the Spirit, we will perfect the love of God in our hearts, and so be given the key of David to manifest God’s glory for the discipleship of the nations in our generation!
Psalms 19:7-14(NKJV)
The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether…
