TURNING FROM OUR WICKED WAYS
2Chronicles 7:14 KJV
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
God tells us four conditions His people need to fulfill for Him to hear their prayers and heal their land:
1 . Humility; which is firstly an internal attitude of the heart before it manifests in acts of obedience and meekness. It is further empowered by regular fasting (Psa. 35:13).
2 . Praying effectually and fervently with all kinds of prayer in the Spirit, in right-standing with God, having been cleansed by the blood of Jesus (Jam. 5:16; Eph. 6:18).
3 . Seek His face: We do this by spending quality time with God in prayer and in the Word during the fourth watch (3-6am). This involves the daily practice of getting up early, which requires determination and discipline empowered by the Holy Spirit (Phil. 2:13).
4 . Turn from our wicked ways. The Scripture describes wicked ways as hating, ignoring or casting God’s Word of instruction behind us (Psa. 50:16-17). We do this when we disobey any of the above instructions needed to heal the land.
THE HEALED LAND
A healed nation or land (see Psa.144:11-15), is one free from political, social and economic distress: no outcry in the streets; a morally upright populace, especially among the young men and women, including the presence of economic and agricultural abundance.
God has made us watchmen over our nations (Isa. 62:6-7). As we humble ourselves, pray, seek God’s face and turn from our wicked ways, God will heal our nation. By our example, other nations will be healed through the prayers of the Church in them. This will bring upon all nations the blessings of the age to come.
Psalms 144:11-15 NKJV: Rescue me and deliver me from the hand of foreigners, Whose mouth speaks lying words, And whose right hand is a right hand of falsehood— That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; That our daughters may be as pillars, Sculptured in palace style; That our barns may be full, Supplying all kinds of produce; That our sheep may bring forth thousands And ten thousands in our fields; That our oxen may be well laden; That there be no breaking in or going out; That there be no outcry in our streets. Happy are the people who are in such a state; Happy are the people whose God is the LORD!
