WAITING ON GOD’S PROMISE
OLUBI JOHNSON
Hebrews 10:35-36 KJV
Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
The Scriptures enjoin us NOT to cast away our confidence, when it looks like the manifestation of God’s promise to us is being delayed, because our faith will be rewarded greatly.
Generally, this is true for ALL the promises of God (2Cor. 1:20), but it is particularly true of the promise of eternal life (1Jn. 2:25) made manifest in our mortal flesh.
2Corinthians 4:10-11 KJV
Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.
There is usually a period of time BETWEEN when God gives a promise and when the promise comes into physical manifestation.
Remember, it took about 24 hours for the fig tree cursed by the Lord Jesus to wither (Mark 11.12-21); 3 days for Esther to be favoured by King Ahasuerus (Est. 4:16-5.3); and 21 days for Daniel to receive the answer to his prayer (Dan. 10:12-14).
Why does God allow this time delay? To perfect our character with the fruit of patience, humility and love (Rom. 5:3-4).
Hebrews 10:36 KJV
For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
This will enable us enjoy the blessings of the promises of God and not to lose out through pride.
How then do we wait on God’s promise? By actively watching and praying always throughout the day (Matt. 26:41).
This requires us to regularly (at least once every six hours – Deut. 6:7), release the power of forgiveness for ourselves and the people around us, asking life for them (1Jn. 5:16), and praying in tongues briefly to build them and ourselves up (Jude 1:20-21).
Romans 12:12 NKJV
…rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer.
