WHERE IS THE PROMISE OF HIS COMING?
OLUBI JOHNSON
2Peter 3:3-4 KJV
Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
Here, the scripture tells us that in these last days scoffers will be asking us the Church, “Where is the promise of His coming?”
A similar thought is echoed in the book of Joel, “…wherefore should they say among the people, ‘Where is their God?’ ” (Joel 2:17).
Since the restoration of the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues at about the beginning of the last century (about 1900-1906), there have been several prophesies by great spiritual fathers like E.W. Kenyon, Smith Wigglesworth, Kenneth Hagin, S.G. Elton and others.
These fathers prophesied that a great manifestation of the power of the Holy Spirit: the perfection and fulness of Christ in the Church, enabling us to do the works the Lord Jesus did and greater, would be coming to the Church (Col. 1:27-28; Jn.14:12).
However, since the death of all these spiritual fathers, this manifestation has, so far, not yet taken place.
Many are asking, “Where is this promise of His coming?”
We are now in JANUARY 2021 and this great manifestation has still not yet come!
The truth is that His coming in us has already started internally and the fulness is about to appear outwardly (Luke 17:20-21; 1Jn. 3:2).
God is doing a thorough work in us before the outward manifestation begins (Heb. 10:35-37; Jas. 1:4).
So we are to continue to wait actively by watching and praying always in the Spirit until the outward manifestation comes (Hab. 2:3; Rom. 8:23).
We do this by praying daily in the Spirit, making at least one hour a goal which we should gradually attain, if we cannot do it immediately.
We watch by reading and meditating on the scriptures, so the Holy Spirit can reveal the present mind of God to us, and show us things to come through the Word.
It is as we watch and pray we will see what God is doing, and be strengthened and encouraged to wait in the ‘upper room’ (Acts. 1: 13) of prayer, until we are endued with power from on high, in this the day of His coming in us (Gal. 5:5; Col. 1:27-28).
